A word from Shirley Moore Leago about this paintingThis painting was inspired by a story about ancient Indians that used to live there. They would build their city on the other side of a large chasm in the earth to protect themselves from their enemies. The gaps were too large for them to get across. in this painting there is a large chasm separating the land. I wanted to create this mystical place from my imagination and remind the viewer about a time when the beautiful Hyacinth Macaw flourished in an ancient time by placing him at the site of this gorge. I want the viewer to remember the lushness of the tropical rain forest and feel the way I feel when I am painting them. The Hyacinth are the largest of the Macaw family and are one of the most rare, so we want to keep them from extinction by preserving their habitat. This most precious land and wonderful bird we want to keep forever.
